So Close To Winning But Still A Proud Achievement

OUR Premier League Primary Stars team and their representatives, St Edwards Primary School, travelled to Huddersfield Town Foundation for the Championship North Regional Final of the EFL Utilita Kids Cup.

The winners from that day’s competition would win a place in the final and face the winners of the Southern Round, with a match at Wembley up for grabs.

Topping their group with five wins from six, confidence was high and there was a real belief that the team could go all the way.

Victorious against Rotherham in the semi-final on penalties, another Yorkshire team, Sheffield United were the opponents in the winner-takes-all final.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, and Sheffield were victorious in a tense, nail-biting game that was decided by a late goal, making the score 2-1.

The boys, although upset, did themselves, their school and Middlesbrough proud and should head home, heads held high with a real sense of achievement. They played some great football, both on the day and across the whole tournament and set a very high bar for next year’s entrants.

Well done to St. Edwards. We couldn’t be prouder.
