Record Number Of Teams Take Part In Stewart Smith Memorial Trophy

BUILDING on the success of the inaugural event and blessed with the weather on a special weekend, the Stewart Smith Memorial Trophy was again a big hit.

Over the two days of the festival, 75 teams spanning several age groups took part at our Herlingshaw Centre as we again remembered a man who made such a difference to this area.

Stewart Smith helped shape MFC Foundation in the way you see it today. Not just the Foundation but football at grassroots across the North East of England.

A trustee of MFC Foundation between 2013 and 2019, Stewart was the Foundation’s Chair for approaching four of those years from April 2013 to August 2016.

Like many a proud Teessider, Stewart began watching the Boro from the Boys End at Ayresome Park and remained a fan for the rest of his life.

Stewart sadly passed away before he had time to add to his considerable legacy throughout the Teesside area, but his family are determined his work will continue to benefit communities he was so proud to be part of.

He would have been delighted to see the increase in numbers from last year, so many smiling faces across so many age groups.

Thank you if you took part; thank you if you played any part in making this a success.
