Foundation Kick Off Volunteer Academy With Open Evening

This past week we kick-started our Volunteer Academy with an Open Evening at the Riverside Stadium, whereby guests had an exclusive opportunity to view some of our exciting volunteering options for the very first time.

Over the past few months the Foundation has been working behind-the-scenes building and designing an offer for volunteering that everyone can enjoy and benefit from. Throughout July and August we have been working closely with our project coordinators and existing volunteers, with a unique volunteering package being offered to enthusiastic and passionate individuals.

Held in the media suite, we invited 40 members of the public who had previously expressed an interest in volunteering, to come and find out more about the launch of our offer, and gain feedback on the new design. Following an informative presentation, we also surprised our guests with a complimentary tour, before ending the evening with a Q&A session.

We also gave away two complimentary match tickets to Middlesbrough’s home fixture against Preston North End on Saturday 26th August. The draw was made by MFC Foundation most experienced volunteer, Nick Walton, and awarded to Christine and Stephen Thirsk.

The launch comes just a few weeks after a team of Foundation staff traveled up to Newcastle Airport along alongside three young volunteers and our trusty mascot Roary the Lion, to promote our involvement within the airport’s Football Foundation charity drive.

Along with The Foundation of Light (Sunderland AFC) and the Newcastle United Foundation, we had a delightful day fundraising in support of the event, as our volunteers greeted airport customers with smiles and high-fives as we spread the word of MFC Foundation.

“We’ve spent a valuable amount of time and resources perfecting this,” said Foundation Volunteer Coordinator Annaleigh Wynn.

“It’s important to me that volunteering with the Foundation is accessible to everyone and removing as many barriers as possible from this was, and will remain the basis of our programme.

“Ultimately, I just hope it encourages more people to get involved and help out in and around the community, as it’s vital to instill these positive habits in as many social groups as possible, across all demographics.”
