Participants from our Think With Your Feet (TWYF) Group were honoured to compete in the inaugural Tough to Talk Cup, organised by the North Riding County FA.
Attended by award-winning speaker and charity founder Steve Whittle, Tough to Talk aims to reduce the saddening male suicide rate by eradicating the stigma surrounding male mental health.
TWYF entered three teams into the competition, played between two groups using a round-robin format with the winners of each group advancing to the final.
The trio of TWYF teams, Red, Blue and Green, were all drawn in the same group and ended the opening stage tied on points. Our Red team progressed to the two-team showdown via virtue of their superior goal difference.
Facing off against North Riding’s Shape the Play outfit, our TWYF Reds came out as the victors in a hotly-contested final, triumphing 2-1 and claiming the maiden Tough to Talk Cup.
“The Tough to Talk event was a great success,” said Health and Wellbeing Coordinator Marshall Thorogood.
“The day was a great experience for our participants, helping them open up and talk to others about their mental health.
“Our Think With Your Feet Reds were crowned winners but they came away with more than the trophy, obtaining stronger knowledge on mental health support.”
