Earlier this summer Middlesbrough and the football world lost a great friend in Alan Peacock.

The figures tell the story of a fine career; 141 goals in 238 games for the Boro, eight in 14 for a Leeds United side he helped to promotion, and 11 appearances (1 goal) for Plymouth were enough to create a lasting memory there. Add to this six England caps and three goals and you get the picture of Alan’s 14-year career in the game.

What you may not know is that for a long time Alan was a regular member of the team at our monthly dementia dances, held in association with Dementia Action Teesside. A popular figure whose photos from that playing career adorn the walls of the very room where the dances take place.

Alan was diagnosed with dementia in 2018. It was a disease which was to take his life on June 29th.

On Sunday September 14th we’re hosting an event called The Alan Peacock Walk – Boro Remembers and we would love you to get involved.

It’s a chance to take part in what promises to be a special day. Memory evoking, emotional.

Put simply, it’s a circular walk from the Riverside, kindly sponsored by Cygnet Law, raising funds for Dementia Action Teesside and Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation.

To take part we’re asking for a £5 donation, participants can then get sponsors if they wish, to walk in memory of Alan Peacock, or walk for a loved one and raise funds for Dementia Action and our programmes.

This is an accessible walk of approximately two-and-a-quarter miles with dogs and wheelchairs welcome. The final part of the walk is a lap of the pitch and the opportunity to sit in seats of lost loved ones to spend some additional time remembering the person they are walking for.

Participants will receive a memory tag they can write a message on and tie to the Ayresome Park games outside the stadium.

They will also receive a “I’m walking for…” card to pin to their clothing during the walk and a thank you card to display at home with a message from Alan’s daughter Diane.
