The annual EFL and Utilita-led competition was held, for the final time, at the Herlingshaw Centre and, despite the showery conditions, the mood was one of celebration from the 24 local primary schools aiming to represent Middlesbrough in the regional round.
With a potential place at Wembley Stadium up for grabs, the tournament was played in a competitive yet fair atmosphere as Kader, St. Patrick's, St. Edward's and Easterside claimed top spot across Groups A-D, respectively.
Only one goal was scored across the semi-final encounters as Kader narrowly defeated St. Patrick's, while spot kicks were needed to separate St. Edward's and Easterside.
And, buoyed from their final four shootout victory, St. Edward's made the most of an early free-kick in the final - firing a shot goalwards with a deflection taking it past the 'keeper.
That proved to be the game's decisive moment, with both elation and dejection on display at the full-time whistle. Yet, embodying the spirit of the day, St. Edward's were only too quick to console Kader as congratulations were voiced in the opposite direction.
Thank you to all the primary schools that took part for making the occasion so memorable. You can find a bumper gallery of the day below:
