Handale Primary School and Lockwood Primary School were invited to the home of Middlesbrough Football Club for poignant workshops on the topic of racism as part of our educational provision in collaboration with Premier League Primary Stars.
As well as a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium, the Year 5 pupils were invited to ask questions to a guest panel consisting of Boro Women's Becky Ferguson and Keira Skelton, Boro Academy scholars Trystan Hounsell and Ethan Carpenter, alongside Thornaby Women's Dani Nanga and Taste of Africa's Junior Masandi, who was also crowned UK Top Inspirational Influencer Winner 2026 for his inclusion activism.
Speaking to the children, goalkeeper Trystan recalled a tournament in Poland where one of his teammates unfortunately encountered a racist remark. "Our centre-back was getting racially abused, and we tried informing the ref to stop the game, but the game kept on going.
"It should have been dealt with better. It shouldn't be happening, and it needs to stop."
