Every 90 minutes, someone in the UK or Ireland dies by suicide, and one in four people has had suicidal thoughts.
Members of the Swift Tees Community running group, Billingham Runners and North Yorkshire Moors Athletic Club will run together to the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday 10 September, a very poignant day in the calendar.
The aim is to bring people together to enjoy exercise and provide an opportunity to talk. The underlying message is that you are not alone, and it is one that Middlesbrough Football Club is keen to help share.
Head of Supporter Engagement Craig McManus said: “Middlesbrough Football Club is proud to support the Riverside Men’s Mental Health Relay, a powerful way of showing that no one has to face their struggles alone. By opening our doors on World Suicide Prevention Day, we hope to help spark conversations, build connections, and send a message of hope to our community.”
The relay will pair runners of different abilities together in relay teams, allowing them to become new running buddies before completing the event together inside the stadium.
