MFC Foundation’s Bright Lights programme has received a boost from Friend of the Foundation Racz Group, and over 50% of participants have successfully gained employment.
The six-week Bright Lights course, in partnership with British Land, provided a pathway for young people to gain experience in retail via a combination of classroom-based sessions and hands-on work placements at Teesside Park.
Led by Foundation staff Ruby Mason and Sarah Stones, participants enjoyed practice at established businesses including Lush, Nike, TK Maxx, M&S, Pizza Hut, KFC and Home Bargains before rehearsing interview techniques for vacancies across the retail centre.
A Friend of the Foundation at Gold level, Racz Group have supported us greatly through Roary’s Big Week, attending a multitude of MFCF events and our individual Friend of the Foundation scheme.
And now the Billingham-based company has provided yet more opportunities for Foundation participants after Bright Lights member Matthew Duck successfully applied for a Team Member role at Dominos Pizza.
A self-proclaimed timorous individual, Matthew joined the programme to build confidence, make friends and find work. For him, the course has been a roaring success.
“At the start of the six-week course my confidence wasn’t great,” said Matthew. “But over time it’s improved. I’m now confident talking to people and helping with customer service.
“The Foundation have been so great in helping me find work. I’m so thankful to them and the Racz Group.”
Nathan Ferguson, Brand Manager at Racz Group, said: “We want to touch the heart of each community where we operate and help change the lives of the people inside of it.
“It’s brilliant to see the difference we can make. This really matters to Matthew, and we’re thrilled we can play a part in his journey into employment.
“After his interview, I rang the store manager myself to see how it went. The feedback couldn’t have been any better. We’re delighted to have him onboard.”
