There was late heartache for England in the final of the Homeless World Cup in Seoul this morning.
Managed by our own Craig McManus deputy head of Middlesbrough FC Foundation, England fought back from two-down to lead 3-2, before another quick double from the most successful side in the history of the competition saw Mexico lead 4-3 at half-time.
Two minutes into the second half England drew level, less than a minute later Mexico regained the lead before England made it 5-5 90 seconds after going behind.
Mexico had beaten England 7-1 in the group stages – the only reverse in the entire competition for Craig’s team – but this game looked to be going to penalties until Mexico grabbed the winner 27 seconds into added-on time and 24 seconds from the end of the match.
Heartache on the day, but Craig and his team can be so proud of their achievements in reaching the final of a competition where they were ranked 35 of 36.
