We are delighted to announce that Redcar and Cleveland Council Cabinet has approved the Loftus Centre plans for our project at Ben Scott’s Field, Loftus.
The provision of this brand-new facility will be an exciting development which will include a community provision, and new 3G full size pitch made possible by funding via the Foundation and hopefully from an application which will be made for funding to the Football Foundation. The project will be dependent on a successful application with decision expected in early 2025.
Middlesbrough FC Foundation aims to raise aspirations, help realise potential and improve the life chances of people across the Tees Valley, alongside the Football Foundation, who invest in and support outstanding grassroots sports facilities.
Currently, the Foundation engages with 38,000 people a year, of all ages and backgrounds, across the Tees Valley in a wide range of activities. They work with people aged from two to 102 – from running Roary’s Academy for young children to the Foundation’s Dementia Care work.
Lynsey Edwards, Head of Middlesbrough FC Foundation said: “The Council’s approval is an important step and we are looking forward to continuing our work with the Football Foundation and Redcar and Cleveland Council in order to bring the project to a successful completion as soon as possible.”
Alec Brown, Leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council added: “I am delighted to announce the approval of the Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation’s proposal for a sports centre in Loftus. This marks an exciting step forward for our community, enhancing access to sports, fitness, and well-being facilities.”
Ben Scott’s Field, off Westfield Way, is council-owned, but Redcar and Cleveland Council Cabinet has agreed to partner with the Foundation over plans for a sports venue, with a 3G pitch and 54-space car park.
Ward Councillor Linda White commented: “As the local ward councillor for Loftus, I am incredibly excited about the approval of the new sports village. This development will provide fantastic opportunities for our residents, particularly young people, to engage in sport and physical activity right in the heart of our community. It’s a huge boost for Loftus, and I’m proud to see this investment in our town, helping to enhance both our local amenities and community spirit.”
