In partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, work on a brand-new facility for Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation got underway in Loftus in July.
Excellent progress has been made since, and Phase One, groundworks and the installation of a new 3G sports pitch, has been completed, meaning modular building works and the construction of a car park can now start in earnest.
The project is part of our continued and growing involvement in East Cleveland and has been made possible by funding facilitated by MFCF with additional financial backing from the Premier League, The FA, the Government’s Football Foundation and the continued invaluable support of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
The development of the site situated on an area known as Ben Scott’s Field, will see a pavilion, which will accommodate changing rooms and a café area, together with a car park installed alongside the new 3G pitch.
Head of Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation Charlotte Dinsdale is excited at the latest developments.
“We said right at the start, we were really excited to work with Redcar and Cleveland Council on this exciting project, as we build on the existing provision Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation offers in East Cleveland.
“There are a lot of people working together to bring this project to life and we thank them all. We’re at the point where Phase One is complete and Phase Two is getting underway. It feels real now; this is exciting.”
Cllr Alec Brown, Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to support Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation on this fantastic project, providing council land and the in-house expertise of our project officers.
“Our goal is to enhance fitness, health, and wellbeing across East Cleveland, while delivering a top-quality facility that will be accessible to all residents. We can’t wait to see the first match played here in late 2026.”
The new facility will provide year-round access to football, rugby, and other sports, helping to inspire participation and support talent at every level. This is a key part of our wider ambition to invest in sport and infrastructures that meet the needs of our residents and encourages active lifestyles.
“We know there’s still a long way to go,” concludes Charlotte, “but look at the progress which has been made through excellent work, co-operation and goodwill. There’s a real drive behind this and I’m delighted where we are with it.”
