George Gitau is a young man well placed to talk about diversity and inclusion.
A talented defender with Boro’s U21s, George is eligible to play for four different countries through birth and heritage.
Born in Hamburg, as well as Germany George could play for England, Kenya and Jamaica.
His personal background helped him educate the young people of Rose Wood Academy in Coulby Newham, on the outskirts of Middlesbrough.
Two classes from the school joined George on a Zoom call to chat about Black History Month and his experiences of racism as a player. Thankfully those incidents were few and far between.
An engaging and wise character, George, who has just turned 21, answered a variety of questions which ranged from how he became a player to his hopes and aspirations.
Thank you for your time George, very much appreciated.
