The Avenue Primary School has earned the right to represent Middlesbrough FC in the regional round of the Premier League Primary Stars U11 Girls Cup.

Defeating Grangetown Primary School 3-2 on penalties, The Avenue will compete in the northern section of the competition on Friday 13 February in Sunderland.

The Nunthorpe-based school lifted the trophy in front of Boro Women star Armani Maxwell, who took time out of her busy schedule to cheer on the 16 schools competing for the honour of representing the Boro.

Now wearing the no.9 shirt for Joe Lillie's side, Armani was a regular at various Premier League sessions as a youngster; she knows the importance of initiatives like the Premier League Primary Stars U11 Girls Cup.

"It's about playing football with a smile on your face," said Armani, speaking at the Herlingshaw Centre. "When I was younger, I was involved in a Premier League Schools tournament, and we got the chance to play at Stamford Bridge.

"I was also part of Premier League Kicks when I was in school. I really enjoyed coming to the sessions. They were really fun. Today, there's been a lot of good goals and a lot of talent on display."

Best of luck to The Avenue in the regional round!
