Futsal Scholars Sign Up At Rockliffe

MFC Foundation’s new crop of Futsal Scholars put pen to paper on their two-year scholarship agreements at the club’s state-of-the-art training ground yesterday afternoon.

The group of 22 were given a tour of Middlesbrough FC’s Rockliffe Training Complex, taking a look at the indoor 4G facility, gymnasium, dressing rooms and outdoor pitches, before signing their contracts with the Foundation in the Media Suite.

MFC Foundation’s Futsal & Education Scholarship offers a unique experience for 16-18 year olds to combine further education and sporting performance. Over the two year course, students study a Level 3 BTEC Sport (Performance and Excellence) and compete in the English Football League Trust Games Programme.

Learners get to study in our classroom facilities at The Riverside Stadium, and train at our Herlingshaw Centre facility in South Bank, with sessions delivered by a UEFA B football coach studying towards UEFA B in Futsal.

Andrew Downey, MFC Foundation’s Futsal & Education Lead is delighted with his squad ahead of the new season, with every student showing promise both on the pitch and in the classroom.

“All of our new recruits enjoyed successful results in their GCSE’s this summer, and they are raring to go on their new course here at the Foundation.

“Alongside our existing pupils, we have very bright hopes for both their academic and sporting development, and we as coaching staff are looking forward to helping them reach their goals.”
