Middlesbrough MP Makes Foundation School Visit

Middlesbrough MP Andy McDonald made a recent visit to local primary school Breckon Hill to take part in a ‘Move and Learn’ session delivered by MFC Foundation.

The project, currently in its third year, sees the Foundation work in partnership with Ferrero and the Football League Trust to deliver a six week course to children across the Tees Valley area.

Move and Learn targets children aged 9 and 10, aiming to encourage physical activity, promote nutritional education and build awareness of the importance of a healthy diet and an active lifestyle for both physical and emotional wellbeing.

The local MP enjoyed both a fun-filled and educational afternoon as Foundation Health Coordinator Paul South taught the class about the functions of the skeleton and key facts and figures about human anatomy.

Mr. McDonald praised the programme, saying: “I was delighted to attend Breckon Hill School and see the fantastic team at MFC Foundation at work.

“Seeing the Move and Learn project in action you get a real picture of how football can engage young people in a really creative way.

“Teaching pupils about healthy eating and fitness through sport and using the Boro as an inspiration worked tremendously well. A great project superbly delivered. Real, effective community engagement.”

Helena Bowman, Head of MFC Foundation, added: “It was great to see our local member of parliament attend one of the fantastic educational programs we deliver here in Teesside.

“We’ve ran the Kinder Sport Move & Learn program for three years now, and year-on-year we have seen an increasing number of primary schools wanting to get involved.

“We are delighted to showcase to Mr. McDonald the work MFC Foundation are doing in his constituency, and pleased he enjoyed his visit to Breckon Hill Primary School.”
