Dimi Brings Greek Delicacies to Local School

A key quality for any goalkeeper is being efficient with their distribution, and timely with their delivery. However, for Middlesbrough shot-stopper and recent restaurateur Dimi Konstantopoulos, he wasn’t serving up a pin-point pass to his Boro team-mates, but boxes and boxes of delicious Greek delicacies to 60 primary school children!

In partnership with MFC Foundation and Dimi’s restaurant, Great Greek Modern Restaurant, we visited one of our partner schools St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary for an afternoon of Greek fun!

The 38-year-old ‘keeper delivered boxes of traditional Greek food, including hummus, tzatziki, mini kebabs and chicken gyros to the school, after purchasing enough food to feed two hungry Year 3 & 4 classes.

Dimi joined our Health Coordinator, Paul South, in dishing out the food to the both excited youngsters in the dinner hall, before swapping his ladle for some colouring pencils as he joined in with the children in the classrooms, who were designing new ideas for his restaurants uniform.

Health Coordinator Paul also put on a very special Kinder Sport ‘Move and Learn’ lesson, tailored around the different food groups in the various Greek treats.

Dimi also fielded a Q &A with some of the pupils in the Head Teacher’s office, before officially opening the brand new wing of the school, cutting the ribbon after months of building work to get it ready for use in the near future.

Speaking to, Dimi said on the visit: “It’s been fantastic, I do enjoy spending time with young people and children because they are the future of this area.

“For me to spend some time with them and hopefully have taught them a few things about Greek mythology, so overall it was a good day.

“Most of them [the children] seemed to enjoy the food, and hopefully it gives them more options in the future as they learn about Greek food. It’s a great option for them to add to their personal menu, and it’s often a very healthy option.”

Dimi is also a big supporter of the Foundation, having attended our 20th Year Anniversary Dinner back in November, and he added: “It shows how close the football club is with the community [through MFC Foundation].
“That shows in the followings we have during the games, and since I’ve been here it’s been tremendous.

“It’s a great relationship between the club and the town, and it’s a privilege for the football club and I hope it happens more and more around the world.

“That’s why I am a big fan and supporter of the Foundation.”
